Bowling Tips

Bowling tips The Do's and Don'ts of Bowling

Bowling can be great fun for all ages but we do advise that the following points be considered.

The following simple rules have been designed to ensure everyone's safety and enjoyment.

  • Always be ready to take your turn on the lane to avoid keeping others waiting - so try not to pop to the bar or toilet just before your go.
  • Remember that the player to the right has the right of way. However, if the player to your left picks a ball from the rack first, be a gentleman and allow him to bowl first.
  • Stay in your own approach area, returning to the back of the approach after your ball has hit the pins. At this point however, you are allowed a quick glance to see how well you did.
  • Don't distract a bowler once he has taken up his position - it's bad sportsmanship and could be dangerous.
  • Don't cross the black foul line; the area beyond is very slippery
  • Be a good loser and a modest winner - too much leaping about and shouting may cause offence!
  • Check that your bowling shoes fit comfortably, if not exchange them.
  • Choose a bowling ball weight that suits you, and check the finger hole sizes on the stand (ask a member of staff if you cannot find this).
  • Never put your hands in the ball return; or retrieve your ball as another is being returned as your fingers may get trapped
  • If there is an accident or a problem, report it immediately as we always have a qualified 1st aider on duty

How to Bowl

  • The object of the game is to knock down all the pins
  • Each game is made up of 10 frames
  • You get two balls per frame (unless you get them all down with one ball)
  • Players stand at the red line and bowl the ball down the lane
  • Points are scored by knocking over the pins

Ten Pin Bowling Scoring

  • Ten pin bowlng scoring is really very simple – once you have entered your details or tour staff will be happy to help your scores will be automatically calculated by our fully computerised scoring system.
  • You get up to two balls in each frame to try and knock the pins down
  • If you knock all the pins down with your first ball this is called a STRIKE!
  • If you score a STRIKE then only one ball is bowled in the frame
  • If you knock all the pins down with your second ball this is called a SPARE.
  • The number of pins you knock down in each frame is your PINFALL, which is your score.
  • For example, if you knock over nine pins in a frame you score 9 for that frame.
  • When you get the 10th frame you will get an extra ball if you score a SPARE, or two extra balls if you score a STRIKE.
  • The player with the highest PINFALL is the winner
